MSHDA: Hardest Hit Fund

 The Michigan State Housing Development Authority ( MSHDA ) was recently awarded an additional 215.6 million dollars in funding under the HFA Hardest-Hit fund. The Federal Housing Financing Agency developed this fund in order to help Homeowners in the hardest hit housing markets in Michigan. With the additional funding, the program is expected to  help at least 49,000 households across Michigan.

Michigan's Helping Hardest Hit Homeowners fund is designed to provide:

  • Mortgage payment assistance for homeowners currently receiving unemployment compensation.
  • Funds for homeowners who have fallen behind in their mortgage payments due to no fault of their own and who have overcome this obstacle, and
  • Federal matching funds for principal reductions for homeowners who can no longer afford their mortgage payments as a result of reduced income.
